Mahjong

The word "mahjong" comes from the Chinese for sparrows. The sound of the tiles knocking together is known as the "twittering of sparrows."

Modern Mahjong can only be traced back as far as the 19th century, but it's predecessors are thought to date from the Sung dynasty (960 - 1279 AD).

There are many variations on the game especially with scoring. Most regions tend to have an accepted local playing practice.
